"The Word Spreads"

When we share about what Jesus does for us, we don't need to do any fancy miracles. When we spread the good news that Jesus is the "main man" in our lives, we ourselves don't need to heal or cure or even preach. Jesus Himself does the healings! Jesus Himself is the main attraction. Not ourselves. Not what we do or say. It's all about Jesus.

"There he found a man named Aeneas, a paralytic who had been bedridden for 8 years. 'Aeneas,' Peter said to him, 'Jesus Christ heals you. Get up and take care of your mat.' Immediately Aeneas got up. All those who lived in Lydda and Sharon saw him and turned to the Lord." Aeneas wasn't crippled his whole life, but 8 years is a long time to be bedridden! It's amazing how he was "found" by Peter in his condition. It's even more amazing that Peter tells him not just to get up, but to take care of his mat! Was it dirty or smelly? Why wasn't it his bed but a mat? But the coolest thing is that Aeneas just didn't get up. He must have walked around, not just in his hometown of Lydda but even in a neighboring town, Sharon! People saw him, probably heard his story, and turned to Jesus. How cool is that.

Sometimes Jesus may call upon us to heal in His name. Even if we are not Peter, we can do it, because Jesus does the healing, not us! And even if we are not called to heal or cure or do powerful deeds, we can always share how powerful Jesus is in our lives. That kind of sharing doesn't take a miracle! It only takes our focus on Jesus in our lives and how much Jesus means to us. It's like the grandma or grandpa who just loves to take out the photos of their adorable grandchild. It doesn't take much to share that joy and that sense of pride. It's a natural thing to share the joy in our lives! So let's spread the word, not just in our town but in whatever town we happen to be in -- Jesus is the main attraction in our lives now and forever!

What If...

What if .......

What if you never achieve all your hopes and dreams?

Wouldn't God still be God?

What if all the plans, visions and prophecies don't come to pass in your day,

Isn't God still the God of all?

What if the finances you've been working on for that building or business, go to another cause or fails to materialise?

Is it not God Himself that gives you the ability to get wealth?

Does that mean He's failed?

What if in our times the wars fail to cease but to increase?

Children and adults continue to die meaningless deaths?

Does that mean we serve a compassionless God?

What if you receive the grades you've been working for, get into the job or university you desired and it's not what it's cracked up to be?

Tell me whose fault would that be?

Is it Gods for not showing you your destiny more clearly, after all your steps have been ordered of the Lord?

God forbid that we blame Him for every mishap, every let down and every misdemeanour!

What if...

What if we walked by faith and not by sight?

How many mountains would you have removed with just a mustard seed of faith?

What if we prayed and interceded consistently and persistently for our countries, presidents and leaders?

How different this world would be.

What if we judged others by their intent and not just by their actions?

How loving and forgiving we would be.

What if we not only read the word, but believed the Word, the blessings and the curses?

What walking atmosphere, community and world changers we would be.


What if...

What if we not only met with the Living God but trusted His every Word,

And believed with all our hearts that Jesus Christ was born

to a virgin, lived a life that was pure and sinless,

What if we truly believed that He was the son of God,

Who came to give us life through His death,

What if we really believed that at Calvary every one of our sins were nailed to the cross and His blood cleanses us,

No more would we rehearse our pasts and ponder on our failures.

What if...

What if we really and truly believed that all things were possible?

That we are more than conquerors and over comers,

That our Father is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords,

That He knows the plans that He has for us,

Plans to give us a future and a hope!

What does Christmas mean to you?

Mmh, Christmas?

As I pondered the answer to this question and thought about Christmas,

I began to think about the comments I've heard on the TV, radio, by friends and by others

As I realised there are so many interpretations, to what this season is all about

You see some think it's all about spending lots of money,

As credit card companies rub their hands, making up for the years losses

For others it's a time we can remember friends, colleagues and family members,

And send cards to those we said we'd call, but didn't get around to it


Some say it's just for children

As they prepare for Santa's call

Others say it's not for adults

It's the season of good will

One where we exchange gifts from one another

Or maybe it's the queen's speech, the old films and lots of game playing, you know, charades, monopoly and the likes,

Or is it about carol services, mince pies, Christmas trees and office parties

A time when bosses appreciate their staff with vouchers and bonuses


Mmh, what does Christmas mean to you?

For many it is all of the above

For others it's a combination

While for some, just the thought of Christmas brings pangs of loneliness; pain and sorrow as they remember lost loved ones,

Whether Christmas brings thoughts of sorrow or joy

There's one important aspect that if we don't grasp we've missed the whole intention of this precious season


For it's the time of year when we can formally celebrate our Saviours birthday, though we're thankful all the year round

It's a time when the world is open to hearing about a child that was born unto us

A son that was given

Whose shoulders the government is upon

Who is He? What's His name?

His name is Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace!

Christmas is a time when all heaven and earth declares that Jesus is Lord!

Yesterday, today and forevermore!

He is the Broken heart mender, the Lily of the valley, He is the bright and morning star, He is Comforter and Friend!

So what does Christmas mean to you?

Prayer With Expectation

We may have heard at some point in our lives that if we truly believe in something, having faith that it will happen, then it really will happen. Some people don't completely accept that, but the Bible is clear; what you believe is what you get. Jesus said, "Whatsoever things you desire, when you pray, believe that you receive them and you shall have them" (Mark 11:24).

But, He didn't say we would see the manifestation of our prayers immediately. We need to give God time to work things out, continue in our faith, and not doubt, "For a man who wavers is like a wave of the sea, driven with the wind and tossed. Let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord" (James 1:6-7).

Expectation is the key to receiving from Him. What good does it do to pray without expecting God to answer? You might as well be talking to a tree. The Bible says, "Without faith, it is impossible to please God, for he who comes to Him must believe that He is God, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him" (Hebrews 11:6).

You are Jehovah!

Who else could pick me up and turn me around?

Who else could put my feet on solid ground?

Who else could accept me as I am?

It's Banner, Sanctifier, Saviour, Forgiver, Master, Yahweh, Jehovah,

Redeemer, Rock, Shield, Instructor, Protector, Director...

His name is JESUS, MY REFUGE, in the midst of the storm

THAT'S WHO HE IS!

"Trading Spaces"

There is this TV show, which takes two households and remodels one room of each home for under $1,000! There are interior designers and carpenters, and the homeowners trade spaces for two days as they remodel each other's homes! Most of the time the new space is responded to with much joy and delight! Then there are times when that remodeled space is met with disappointment and chagrin. (With Jesus, the former always happens!).

"Peter replied, 'Repent and be baptized every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off -- for all whom the Lord our God will call.'" (Acts 2:38-39). Repenting is another word for re-thinking or in our framework, remodeling! Instead of interior designers coming to take the old room and transforming it with new ideas and new designs, Jesus comes into our hearts and does a make-over in us! Just like a re-model, many times our insides have to be gutted and replaced with new things. In other cases, our old furniture is re-upholstered and gives the room a new look!

Jesus is calling us today to examine our hearts. Have we given ourselves to His remodeling offer? It only takes one decision, and the rest is history! If we have said yes, then the next steps are laid out for us -- we are to be baptized into His family, and we will be forgiven our sins, and best of all, we get the gift of the Holy Spirit! The Spirit is the One who continues to work in us in interior design. You see, Jesus is the One who traded spaces with us, with His sacrifice for us on the cross. Our sin is nailed up there on that cross! And it is Jesus who sends us the Holy Spirit to keep our space transforming and growing closer to Him, for us, our children, and even if we are far away! What a blessing to be a part of Trading Spaces, with the best interior designer of all time!

Why would God want me?

I'm not perfect.
I have all kinds of problems.
I have no ability. I have no gifts.
I'm just not worthy.

Why would God want me? Well, did you know that....

Moses stuttered.
David's armor didn't fit.
John Mark deserted Paul.
Timothy had ulcers.
Hosea's wife was a prostitute.
Amos' only training was in the school of fig-tree pruning.
Jacob was a liar.
David had an affair.
Solomon was too rich.
Jesus was too poor.
Abraham was too old.
David was too young.
Peter was afraid of death.
Lazarus was dead.
John was self-righteous.
Naomi was a widow.
Paul was a persecutor of the church.
Moses was a murderer.
Jonah ran from God's will.
Miriam was a gossip.
Gideon and Thomas both doubted.
Jeremiah was depressed and suicidal.
Elijah was burned out.
John the Baptist was a loudmouth.
Martha was a worry-wart.
Noah got drunk.
Did I mention that Moses had a short fuse?
So did Peter, Paul - well, lots of folks did.

But God doesn't require a job interview for salvation.
He's our Heavenly Father.
He doesn't look at financial gain or loss.
He's not prejudiced or partial,
not judging, grudging, sassy, or brassy,
not deaf to our cry,
not blind to our need.

He knows who we are and what we are and loves us in spite of ourselves

SATAN SAYS, "YOU'RE NOT WORTHY."

JESUS SAYS, "SO WHAT? I AM."

SATAN LOOKS BACK AND SEES OUR MISTAKES.

GOD LOOKS BACK AND SEES THE CROSS.

He doesn't calculate how you failed last year. It's not even on the record.

Sure, there are lots of reasons why God shouldn't call us. But if we are in love with Him, if we hunger for Him,
He'll use us in spite of who we are, where we've been, what we have done,
or the fact that we are not perfect!

"Well, We've Always Done It That Way!"

Breaking with tradition is not an easy thing to do. Change in general causes anxiety and stress. And the catch phrase in most churches is, "Well, we've always done it that way." God is not necessarily against tradition. But the Lord doesn't want us to get stuck in what we do and say just because it's church! God wants us to follow His lead, not maintain the status quo.

"They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus and with His brothers." (Acts 1:11). Now the disciples and Jesus' family were used to worshipping in a traditional setting, where men and women had separate areas. The Upper Room, where all this was taking place, wasn't like that, and so they were creating new space and new ways of gathering together, breaking with tradition!

We often get set in our ways, whether it's church or work or home or even how we go on vacation! And I suppose there is nothing wrong with that. We tend to be creatures of habit. Sometimes we eat the same thing on the menu, just because it's safe. We are missing out on other possibilities of life! Sometimes the things we choose will be worse than what we are used to. That's all right! It's good to know that some choices are better than others! But for goodness sakes, let's not keep ourselves contained and safe in only things that are familiar and tested out. Let's be bold and take a risk for God! Even if we mess up, the Lord will come alongside and help us get back on track, today and forever!

Bloom Where You are Planted

Sometimes it feels like we are in a very hard place in our life. Living is hard, our circumstances are challenging and some relationships difficult or painful. None of us will escape seasons of life that are hard. It is so easy to wish we were somewhere else.......anywhere but here God!

Although we may not see a reason or a purpose while we go through those times of pain and hardship, God remains at our side. He has not abandoned us. He has a higher purpose, a different perspective, and the resources to get us through. He has the ability to create beauty from ugliness, life out of death, joy from the ashes of mourning. He looks at our life from the perspective of eternity, He sees our beginning from the end. He alone can turn our impossiblities into possibilities, and He does so in ways beyond our imagination.

So hang in there, turn your face to the Son and bloom where He has planted you. In time you will see the seeds of your life that have appeared to have died, grow shoots of new life and the promise of coming spring.

"The Real You"

We often put up different faces for different situations. We have a "church" face; a "work" face; maybe even a "daddy" face or a "mommy" face; and a "happy" face (even when we aren't!). We hide our true feelings from others. Sometimes our cover-up leaks out a truth about our real selves, and it can scare us and those we love!

"'How do you know me?' Nathanael asked. Jesus answered, 'I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.' Then Nathanael declared, 'Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel.'" (John 1:48-49). Jesus, of course, can see through all our different faces. Just like Adam and Eve, who had to cover up with fig leaves, Nathanael was "discovered" under the fig tree by Jesus with his true self revealed. And just like Adam and Eve, whom God gently clothed with animal skins after the Fall, Nathanael was promised even more than Jesus knowing his true identity. "Jesus said, 'You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You shall see greater things than that. I tell you the truth, you shall see heave open and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.'" (John 1:49-50).

We are no different from Adam and Eve or Nathanael. We, too, have our fig leaves to hide behind! But the Lord knows the real "us," and He loves us anyway! He assures us and promises us amazing miracles to come. All we need to do is declare Jesus our Lord and Savior, and the rest will be His to reveal to us today and forever!

God Opens Doors

"I see what you've done, now see what I've done! I've opened a door before you that no one can slam shut. You don't have much strength, I know that; you used what you had to keep My word. You didn't deny me when times were rough" '

I wonder how many individual flowers there are in this valley? When I saw this picture I was reminded of this verse:

Near and Far

Our God is so wonderful! When we experience the pain of a broken heart, He never too busy or too far away to say, "I know how you feel. It hurts, doesn't it." When we feel mortally wounded from the pain of hurtful words or a broken relationship, Jesus is near us, helping to mend our hearts and bind up our wounds. What an awesome God we have! Yet our God is so huge and sovereign that He can even relate to distant galaxies and starts (because He created them!) and even knows each one by name! How intimate God is with remote entities like stars!

"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. He determines the number of stars and calls them each by name." (Psalm 147:3-4). How great is that! God is so near to us, yet also intimate with the farthest elements of the universe! It's impossible to comprehend how God can be both near and far at the same time!

Sometimes the only thing that can heal a broken heart is the Lord's tender and gentle touch. He comes just at the right time to soothe our pain and He gives us the miracle of healing. Often we want to nurse our wounds and take care of ourselves on our own, but how much better it is when we allow God to do the mending. Our wounds can heal so much faster with His love and care. Just as God calls the stars each by name, He is also calling each one of us by name. Whether or not we have broken hearts, God knows exactly what our hearts need. Let's give Him our hearts today and always, whether we feel Him near or far!

Your Anchor in a Storm

Many times, when we fall into trials we may be tempted to ask, "Where is God?

Well, God is there even when we can't see Him.

On gray, gloomy, rainy days, high above the overcast sky, the sun continues to shine. We can't feel its warmth or see its beauty, but it still exists.God's beauty and His love for us are real even when our circumstances are difficult.

If we think "above the clouds," we can have hope knowing that God is still there.Just as gray, gloomy, overcast skies are temporary, so are our difficulties.

If you are facing a discouraging situation in your life right now, remember that God is still there and rejoice in the fact that this too shall pass.

Sometimes, things are a little more intense than just a lttle rain. Many times, there are huge storms that come into our lives. But again, these shall pass as well.God uses these storms to produce good fruit in us. The bible says we should rejoice and "Count it all joy when we fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of our faith produces patience so that we may be made perfect, complete, and lacking nothing" (James 1:2-4).

Stories have been told about the only thing that saved the lives of people aboard a ship in a storm was a strong anchor. But, there are also stories of those who perished when their anchor did not hold........

God is our anchor in times of trouble

"Two for One"

I love those two for one sales! What a bargain! Sometimes I may buy them even if I really don't need them, just because it's such a good deal! God knows that two is better than one, too! That's why He made us with two of most things: ears, eyes, hands, and feet! The singles are things we need to be careful of: the mouth, the heart, the brain.

"Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips." (Psalm 141:3). It is much better to listen and observe before allowing our mouths free reign to talk. Two ears and two eyes can take in a lot of information. Giving out information by our mouths should always be done in moderation. Just as the scriptures say, we should keep watch over what walks through the doors of our lips! In James 3:5, it even warns us "Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.

"Words are powerful influencers. Words can build up and encourage, but they can also destroy and demean. We often let things spill out of our mouths without taking into account the impact they make on others. When we have our mouths guarded by the Lord, we will not utter worthless things. When we have the Lord watching the door to our lips, the hurtful words that tend to flow out of us will be shut in. What God wants us to do is connect our hearts and brains with Him. Then the things that flow from us will not be hurtful, boastful, or worthless: they will be words that will be as valuable as our two for one sales! What a bargain!

Did You Inherit Your Religion?

The vast majority of people in the world automatically and unquestioningly inherit their religion from their parents. For something as important as religion, why are we so reluctant to shop around?

One Saturday morning I was sipping my coffee and reading the newspaper when the doorbell rang.
This was an unusual occurrence as we lived in a somewhat isolated log cabin in the mountains outside Denver.
At the door stood two attractive college-age girls who wanted to talk to me about becoming a Jehovah’s Witness. Normally I would politely say, “No thanks” and return to my paper, but that morning I decided to engage with them.
After hearing their initial pitch, I asked one of them, “Are your parents Jehovah’s Witnesses?” “Our whole family is,” she replied.
“Do you think religion is an important thing for people to have in their lives?”
“Very,” she replied, and I agreed.
“How many other religions have you studied and investigated?” “None.”
“Is a car an important thing in your life?” I asked.
“Well, yes, but not as important as religion.” Again I agreed.
“What kind of car do you drive?”
“A Toyota.”
“Is that what your parents drive?”
“No.”
“Why not?” I inquired.
“Because I like Toyotas better.”
She was starting to get impatient but politely continued to humor me.
“How do you know?”
“Because I like the way my Toyota looks and drives, plus it was inexpensive and gets good gas mileage.”
I nodded toward my Toyota sitting in the driveway and agreed.
“How did you know that about your car when you bought it?”
“I test drove different cars and talked to my friends about their cars.” she said, increasingly exasperated.
“So you checked out lots of different cars before deciding on your Toyota,” I gently summarized, “but your religion, which is much more important, you inherited from your parents without knowing anything about the alternatives?”
“Yeah,” she replied rather sheepishly, catching my drift.
“I’ll tell you what,” I said. “Spend the next five years investigating and studying the other great religions of the world and then if you still want to talk to me about becoming a Jehovah’s Witness, we’ll talk.”
The girls, realizing they had a hopeless case on their hands, thanked me for my time and left.

The vast majority of people worldwide inherit their religion—one of the most important things in their lives—unquestioningly from their parents, without ever investigating the alternatives. Many are convinced it is the only way to God, believe that other religions are heresy, and some will fight and die for it.

"Graveyard Shift"

There are some of us who have jobs that cover the graveyard shift, from about midnight to eight in the morning. Those hours are mostly when others are sleeping, which is probably why the shift got its name. And those hours, like graveyards, are pretty quiet, dark, with not much action going on. If we listened, we could probably hear the seconds tick away.

Time seems to stop, and waiting for dawn seems like waiting for eternity."I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His Word I put my hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning." (Psalm 130:5-6). Is there some prayer we have prayed that seems unanswered? Is there some desperate need we have that continues to be unmet? Waiting is when the Lord shapes us and molds us. Waiting is when our souls, more than anything else, know beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the answer is coming. Just as sure as watchmen know the dawn is coming and their shift will be over, we can also be sure in our waiting. Jesus is our hope. Jesus never disappoints.

Perhaps in our waiting we have gotten discouraged or impatient. Perhaps in our waiting we have relied too much on our own strength to answer our needs. The Lord is telling us that only He can bring true peace and real hope. Only the Lord can give us the perfect timing for our requests that seem to hang in the air. When we wait, it is an opportunity for our souls to connect with God. When we wait, all the noise and distraction can be shed from our souls, so that all we have to focus on is the Lord Himself. And from our graveyard shifts will arise a new dawn that will brighten our waiting souls today and forever!

Focusing on Your Purpose

So many people are tormented by fear and don't realize how negative thinking affects them. They build a prison for themselves with suggestions of limitation, incapacity, and unworthiness. They don't think of succeeding, but of how they will fail.

It's been said that a person does not get what they want, but what they picture. It's those dominate thoughts that are being attracted to you, not your greatest dreams. So, the way to attract the things you desire is to hold a mental picture of what you want as long as possible, and as often as possible. Feel that you already have what you desire with certainty and you will see it become manifested in your life.It's a simple concept, and it's true.

It's just not easy.It's not easy because we are bombarded daily with all kinds of negative thoughts, and then we are forced to decide what to do with them after they've entered our minds.There is just no way a person can enjoy life to its full with a head full of negative thoughts.

The will of God is abundance, prosperity, blessings, peace, joy, and righteousness. Thoughts of fear, worry, dread, and poverty are in direct opposite to God's plan. In fact, they are the devil's plan.

2 Corinthians 4:4 says, Satan has become the god of this world, and it's his will to completely destroy us. But, God has put limits on the devil. He cannot cross the blood line. Therefore, the main way he disrupts people's lives is by planting suggestive thoughts in their heads, causing them all kinds of grief.

A person cannot change what they do not acknowledge. So, if you can acknowledge that if you live life passively, the devil will destroy you.He is not just going to sit by and watch as you become outrageously blessed. The reason is because he hates God.And, since he can not hinder God in any way, the best he can do is hinder God's most beloved possession - you!
